![]() ![]() This game ranges from sixty dollars to a hundred and twenty. Raidou Kuzunoha is not just an obscure game, but it’s obscure with a price tag. Why is this game forgotten? Could it be due to other SMTand Persona games clouding it? または could it be because of how hard it is to get these days. This is a game that not a lot of ファン talk about for some reason, despite Raidou, the main character, making appearances in other SMT games, including the previously mentioned Nocturne, in 日本 only releases, and even got a sequel. The Soulless Army… Yeah, that’s a mouthful. The Soulless Army, または the full title, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. Then there’s me, an asshole who still has a PS2 in 2020. But there’s one PS2 タイトル that has gone obscure, even among SMT fans, with only true elitists discussing it. Even the other spin off franchise on the PS2, Digital Devil Saga, is getting some love. But thanks to cult status, SMT Nocturne has seen a sort of resurgence in popularity. Thus began the hellstorm of Persona spin-offs, resulting in the trash 火災, 火 that is the Persona 5 spin-offs that we currently toil in today. Atlus came to the conclusion that mainline SMT was out and SMT spin-offs were in. So of course, it was a financial failure. Regardless, Nocturne was a brilliant game with amazing gameplay, art and music, with no other RPG like it at the time. There are some people who don’t know about it, または absolute heathens, some of them known as sundaes that are of the plastic variety, that say it’s just bad, which is fine, one is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong they are. But this is not about me gushing over how great SMT Nocturne is. And I’m not just saying that because it’s really Persona that people care about and Shin Megami Tensei has flown under the radar completely, no I’m not bitter, you’re bitter. I haven't even scratched the surface in this review. So the Shin Megami Tensei franchise is a pretty well known series of games. and without the use of multiple endings! Sure the narrative can be a little repetitive, but this game has one of the most rich story in all of Megaten, an amazing piece of media. It's a game that uses one of the biggest strength of Megaten incredibely well : presenting to the player a world in transition built by its inhabitants and disturbed by an event to be ultimately redefined. It goes without saying that this game has things to say in these 12 chapters. everything in this game screams the awkward position of Japan and the necessity of changement. "Raidou" like other characters of the cast is stuck between a glorious past and an uncertain future. This context makes sense with our protagonist, "Raidou" is still a minor, but also an heir to an ansestral clan and a modern high schooler, he is armed by an antique saber but also a modern gun. This game puts the player right in the last step of Japan's modernization and all the troubles that it generated. The popularity of jazz increasing, the influence of the US, the westernization of Japan and its industrialization. ![]() ![]() It takes us back to a time not that far from ours that was a lot more important than what you might think. In our world, the Taisho era ended at the year 16. The setting of Raidou SA is an uchronia, it takes place in a year that doesn't exist, the year 20 of the Taisho era. Thus your routine will be orchestrated by etraordinary requests, investigations, and many many many random ecounter fights. You'll be mainly accompanied by Gouto the mysterious talking cat and Narumi the sympathetic detective specialized in weird extraordinairy cases. Devil Summoner : Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Soulless Army puts the player in the shoes of a young 18 years old man chosen by Yatagerasu to become Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th, a devil summoner that must protect the capital. ![]()
